Data Breach Claims

When your data’s been exposed, our experts have you covered.

Abbleys Solicitors will offer you legal support if your data has been breached, stolen, sold or misused without your knowledge or permission.

About Data Breach Claims

Your personal data is valuable, and when it’s mishandled, the impact can be distressing.

A data breach occurs when sensitive information, such as financial or contact details, is accessed or shared without consent. This can lead to emotional harm, identity theft or financial loss.

Abbleys Solicitors specialise in helping victims of data breaches to claim compensation they deserve. With a proven track record of legal success in data protection and privacy claims, our experienced team has secured positive outcomes for clients across a wide range of cases. Regardless of how your data was exposed, we will carefully assess your case and support you every step of the way.

Our Data Breach Claims

Millions of individuals have been affected by serious data breaches, exposing sensitive personal information without their consent. You may be one of those affected if:

Your personal data was accessed, shared or downloaded without your permission

The breach exposed information such as your contact details, address, date of birth, national ID number or financial information
Special category data about you such as race, religion or belief, and sexual orientation was accessed
Information about your partner or other family members was part of the compromised data
The organisation responsible for safeguarding your information failed to protect it from a cyber-attack
You were notified that your personal data formed part of a large-scale breach involving thousands or even millions of affected individuals

The breach caused you distress, worry, or concern about fraud, identity theft or misuse of your data

You believe the organisation did not take adequate steps to prevent the attack or properly secure your information

Legal Aid Agency

In April 2025, the Legal Aid Agency suffered a serious cyber-attack. The group responsible accessed and downloaded a significant amount of personal data from those who had applied for legal aid. It is believed that more than two million records were accessed and could date back as May 2007. This data includes: contact details, addresses, dates of birth, national ID numbers, criminal history and records of debts and payments.

Information about partners of legal aid applicants may also be included in the compromised data.

FAQs

Your Questions Answered.

We’ve answered some of our most Frequently Asked Questions below, but if you have a question that we have not answered, please feel free to call us on 0161 200 9960.

Will I be charged if my claim is unsuccessful?

Except in limited circumstances, you will not be responsible for paying our fees if your claim is unsuccessful. We do, however, require full cooperation and honesty from all clients throughout the claim process. The complete terms and conditions are outlined in our agreement.

What fee do Abbleys Solicitors charge?

If we are successful in your claim, Abbleys Solicitors charge a success fee of 25% + VAT. These fees will be displayed in your agreement. The financial risk to you is dramatically reduced by the use of a contingent fee agreement, which virtually eradicates the chances of you facing having to pay legal fees after an unsuccessful claim.

What information do I need when submitting a claim?

When submitting a claim with us, you will need to provide a copy of the notification letter or email from the organisation that has been breached, informing you that you have been affected.

If you have been impacted financially, you may also submit any bank or credit statements that show discrepancies.

Can I claim if I have not suffered a financial loss?

You can claim even without having experienced any financial damages. GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) grants you the right to seek compensation for both material and non-material damage, including distress from issues such as spam calls and phishing emails as a result of the breach.

How much compensation will I receive?

The compensation amount will vary on a case-by-case basis.

The total damages will be determined by various factors, such as the severity of the breach, the organisation’s data protection measures and any personal impact.

How long does the process take?

We cannot give an exact timeframe on the length of time it may take to complete a claim. A number of contributing factors that could arise with any legal case may determine the speed of progress, one of which is how cooperative the defendant is.
